I am new to WB. I was just wondering is the threshold usage a real problem? I usually just do a lot of surfing for my preschool class. I just don't want to be surprised and not expecting it.
It depends on which package you're one and what you do with it, but yes the threshold is real and it can be a problem. I'm on the Select Pak and I spend a fairly large amount of time online (2 of us with separate computers), and I've never gone over 30% download and 20% upload. Of course, I don't download movies or use peer to peer apps, which are huge bandwidth hogs. I'd highly recommend you keep track of your usage, there are a number of monitoring tools that you can use, just check some of the previous posts on this thread.
Hi,
I have only been with wildblue for about a month, but so far no problems. We haven’t changed our browsing habits at all. We have two computers/people using the system. We browse, send email, download updates and programs like net meter, look at Utube clips, and download pictures. We have the premium package, greedy for the speed, but even on the basic/budget package we were only averaging around 30% we are now at 19% on our current package.
It seems like the people who have problems are downloading movies and TV shows or are hooked up with some kind of software that opens their computer up for up and downloading when they are not aware of it.
We are really happy with Wildblue. We were happy with our original package too, but decided an extra few dollars was worth the extra bandwidth/speed mostly because this is the first time we have ever had good internet service and more seemed better.
I live in Southern Alabama about 30 miles north of Mobile in the woods.
If anyone is familiar with the Deep South, we have lots of rain, clouds, and humidity. We have only lost service once for a few minutes and it was during a severe thunderstorm, I mean an inch or two of rain within a very short period of time.
Otherwise, we have no problem getting our service even during stormy or cloudy weather.
