    Default Best Wireless Router

I recently upgraded my service to Excede and am currently running an old linksys WRT54GS wireless router. I have also been installing an apple airplay network in the house featuring 3-4 speakers. The current router seems to suffer a bit with speed/handling the amout of traffic and tunes occasionally drop out.

As such does anyone have a recommendation on the best router to utilize with Excede and has anyone got any experience using the apple airport/airport extreme.

The house is single story around 3000 sq ft so coverage area is important.

Thank in advance for your advice.

First prove to yourself that distance is the problem, not speed...can you move your airplay very close to the router and try it for a while just to prove it's a wireless range problem and not a speed problem...

The Linksys router you have is plenty fast enough to handle the speed unless you have other devices/users trying to use the internet at the same time you're downloading music to your airplay...make sure nothing else is trying to use your internet while you run this experiment..

If you're trying to use your airplay at the same time you're surfing the internet or downloading something else your router will rightly divide the available speed from the modem to the devices demanding internet access..

If the airplay works OK closer to the router...then the router I use (below) has about as good a range as any other...but make sure it's range related first, not too many demands at the same time...if you get 12mbs as a single user, then two users at the same time will each get about 1/2 of that, or about 6mbs, and so on...3 users 1/3 each.....

I have an extreme router and a couple of express units

I have one express setup as a print server and another as my music server

Can't go wrong with the extreme/express combo

My 2003 era extreme had drop out issues with iTunes streaming to the express when I would use my 2.4 cordless phone near my computer
It died a couple years back and the newer extreme uses different band to talk to macs which fixed that problem

Actually i didn't view it as a problem after a while
When I was rockin out loud, the stutter would alert me to an incoming call so I kinda miss that problem/feature....

do not use tp-link routers, they do no work with wildblue/exede modems. I learned this the hard way.

Some tp- link will work,,,,,,,as I have used them,
Gigabit routers of any brand do not play well with satellite.
I am using a tp-link wired router now with an engenius access point
