    Chris,

I use to use the wildblue email exclusively. But I am slowly moving away from it for a number of reasons. Here is why:

    1) If you do change services...there is the possiblity the old email will not work. This is not always the case (I dropped Hughesnet back in 2006...but that old email still works today...lol). But as a rule, you should assume you will lose the old service's email address.

    2) Difficulty in using the @wildblue.com email address. Do you know how hard it is to explain this email address over the phone? You have to spell out each letter and then people will say things like "what is that". It is much easy to say "...@gmail.com." People recognize that and you don't need to spell it.

    3) I had a friend that had trouble with their cable account and they had to make them a new account. When that happen...the old email address became null and void and they lost all the emails they had in the email server. Best to use a program like Outlook, download email locally to your machine, and not worry about having your emails on a server someplace. WB email supports this, but so do other email servers out there. And they are not hard to configure.

So to answer your question, I think is it a matter of preference. For me personally, I am glad I am moving away from WB email for the reasons I have stated above.

Using the WB address makes no sense to me.

I had an email that was tied to the ISP years ago. A big, time consuming hassle to change everyone over when we left that ISP.

We use a gmail address and Thunderbird to retrieve the mail. An email client uses less of our data cap than webmail-based email.

Back in dialup days, when cable modems were a dream, my ISP went belly up, and sold our data to others.

I have no idea if privacy laws exist today, on this topic.

I'd use it, except that every other day, WB refuses to acknowledge my password.

Whether you actually use the email service or not is not really a big thing but you do need that email@wildblue.net address along with the password to access the account management pages which include the data usage page.

Mine is primarily for wildblue communications, bills, etc, and account management. Other than that, I generally use either a live, yahoo, or one of the domains I own.
Excede customer; clueless about which beam, but really don't care as long as it works. Still a HughesNet defectee.

I always reccommend to everyone two things concerning email:

    1. To not use their ISP's mail service for their primary mail address

    2. And always use a mail client for their daily use - use webmail only when away from your computer or on a different network that your mail client won't work on

2B. Ideally use a non-microsoft mail client, such as thunderbird

whoa.. I never got a notification for this thread, just now see it..

Hmm... I do use pop3 and dont really plan on switching ISP's since I am in a 2 year contract, just started in FEB ... I am thinking about getting away from AOL MAIL because there is somethings I sign up for I cant get emails at my AOL address which I use exclusively. like forum stuff, newsletters, etc...

How I have it right now is.. EVERYTHING I sign up for is at a @@gmail.com address then forwarded to AOL MAIL since somethings AOL wont allow though ive noticed its sportatic somethings come though and somethings dont... some forum stuff comes though or some website mailing lists, and others dont.
