Not only do Outlook and Windows report back to MS, they'll give out information to anyone who knows how to ask for it. Last year my daughter was using Outlook with Windows 7 and an amateur hacker asked for her contact list and Outlook immediately sent it to her/him. The hacker immediately started sending assorted spam in my daughter’s name to everyone on her list. She apologized to everyone, changed her email provider and deleted Outlook. This little trick is well known and widely used. Only a small percentage of firewalls can prevent it. Outlook isn't secure.

MS doesn't necessarily do anything with the information they collect but just like Google they’re accumulating data on everyone they can reach. Some information sent to MS is just anonymous statistics collection not identifying the user but some is not.

I started using Windows when it came on two floppies but I never used Outlook. I started with Linux in '06 and have used it exclusively since April of last year. It's certainly not for everyone but for those who bother to learn how to use it, it'll run circles around Windows any day. Best of all 99% of Linux software is legally free.

And because it is the only option is an excuse for poor service?

In 3+ days I have had at least 3 calls to tech support. I have rebooted the modem at least 3 times. One night after midnight I could not use the service. Tech support blamed the problem on my router. Funny how after 5 am service returned to normal without me doing anything. Again this morning no service. I rebooted the modem and now have service. Always on (as long as you reboot)?

    Default connectivity

I have reset my modem and router every night just after midnight, about 10 minutes or so after free time starts. Can't keep connected to sites I download from even though my computer says my signal is good. Never had that problem before in over 3 years with wildblue. Went on a trip a couple weeks back and had no problem there either. Something is amiss with the way exede delivers service. One other thing, One night just before midnight I checked my usage. Was at 6.5 gigs left for the month. The next morning I check and it said I only had 4 tenths of a gigs left. My free time went on my usage.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it ain't.

    When having an issue:

    1. Power off router and computer first (and other wireless devices, if so), then one minute later, power off SB2 modem.

    2. Wait 3 minutes

    3. Power up SB2 modem...wait until three lights are lit solid.

    4. Power up router, and wait until all four lights are lit solid.

    5. Then power up wired and wireless devices.
