Default From: box shows wrong address for secondary account

This applies to both Outlook Express and Thunderbird mail programs on two computers. Exede 12. Windows 7.
I did not have this problem with my previous WildBlue service, subcontractor TouchNC.net.
I have set up Outlook Express and Thunderbird as directed by WildBlue. They work fine when I am sending from my primary email account.
I have another account we use for family mail that does not have an SMTP address. When I send an email From: username@mfcomputing.com it goes out with username@wildblue.net in the From: box instead.
In my Sent box the information appears correctly but the person receiving the email gets the wildblue address instead, and Replying to the message sends it to wildblue.
This has caused problems with spam filters.
    Thanks for any help. Hoyt

When you have more than one email account installed in Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Thunderbird when you click the "Create" message icon and your new message window opens, look to the right side of the "From" panel and you'll see a drop-down arrow...click it and you can select which account you want to use for the "From" entry...

I have multiple email accounts, all set up for pop3/smtp, and can select any of them as the "From" when I create new email..

Look for that arrow...if you don't see it, click Tools/Accounts and click "Properties" one at the time on each of your email accounts and make sure the box is ticked that says "Include this account when sending or receiving email"...

Thanks. That drop-down arrow is how I select which account the email is From.
My problem account doesn't have its own SMTP so I have to use my default WildBlue SMPT for it.

I also have the "Include this account...." box checked for all accounts.

This is a new problem for me that came with Exede. Maybe this is what they mean by "WildBlue powered by Google"?

Do any of your accounts not have their own SMTP? And show the Send address correctly on the recipient's machine?

    Regards, Hoyt

Hoyt, email accounts that are not configured for SMTP in your email client (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Thunderbird) can not, and will not show the send address name of that account because it does not have the SMTP server address and port number information needed by your email client..

The only way to do what you want is to use your browser and log into the email account that does not support SMTP and compose/send your message from their..

An example, my "Default" email account is @wildblue.net and when I create a new email that is the "From" information used and what recipients will see...however, I also have a Hotmail account configured for POP3/SMTP and can change the "From" to my @hotmail.com name with the drop-down arrow and that's the name recipients will see..

I also have free email accounts (NetZero and Yahoo) that do allow POP3/SMTP to be used without paying $$'s..so to send messages from those accounts and have the recipients see that username@netzero.net or username@yahoo.com, I have to use my browser and log into those accounts, create and send from there...

The email account you set as "Default" in your email client will always be used unless you have other email accounts configured with POP3/SMTP and can switch to one of them with the drop-down arrow when you compose a new email.

Thanks again. Before I upgraded to Exede my WildBlue (TouchNC contractor) account managed to show the From address correctly on my secondary accounts, using my primary SMTP to send them. This worked from Outlook Express and Thunderbird for about 10 years.

I'm sort of stuck with my secondary account because the domain belongs to my wife's son (a computer scientist) and he lets us use it as a favor. I'm trying to get him to give us an SMTP address for it that we can use, and he's not had time yet.

Do you see any hint of Google's hijacking my email business in this? mfcomputing.com magically turns into wildblue.com. "WildBlue powered by Google."

    Paranoia is creeping in.

Are you talking about an email address or a web site...email using Wildblue email address will be username@wildblue.net...not wildblue.com.

    Wildblue.com is a web site.

What email address do you want used?...just post it as username@xxxxxxxxx and just need the info after the @ symbol...not your real email username...

And, do you forward any email from your mfcomputing email account to your Wildblue email account?

    Wildblue.net it is. My error.

I don't follow your "What email address..." point. With both Thunderbird and Outlook Express I have to pick from one of my existing accounts for the From box to send mail. I can't fill in the From box freehand.

I just forwarded an email that had come to mfcomputing.com to my wildblue.net address. In my Sent folder the From address is correct (username@mfcomputing.com) but when it gets to my Inbox the From address has become username@wildblue.net. This is the problem. It's screwed me up with spam filters.

Were you able to send mail from one of your accounts that isn't associated with an SMPT address (if you have one), as I asked?

Still not feeling Google's hot breath on the back of your neck?

    Thanks for your interest.

What you want to do is called "relay." Many ISPs allow "relay" but Google does not.

With no SMTP sever you are stuck.

Brush is correct...your email client (Thunderbird or OLE) has to log into the SMTP server using the correct mail server address and port number with your account name and password for that service...it can't because you don't have that information stored in your email account used by your email client..so it logs into the wildblue email server (which does not allow a "From" address other than the one you have with WB) so your forwarded email will arrive at the destination with the "From" address of the server/account that actually sent it....

"Were you able to send mail from one of your accounts that isn't associated with an SMPT address (if you have one), as I asked?"

Yes, but not with an email client..as I told you I have to use my browser to log into those email accounts, compose and send from that server...for forwarding you can copy the email from your local inbox, use a browser to log into your non-SMTP account, paste the content into a new email and send it from that server..then your "From" will display to the receivers the way you wanted..

No POP3/SMTP server means no ability to use an email client with that account...
