Thread: More IP Cameras

    Default More IP Cameras

    Hi All,

Am on the new Exced 12 service, and I absolutely cannot get my IP cameras work, but with a slight caveat.

I have two Foscam units, both have been set to use static IP, and I have assigned a unique port to each one.

I have opened the 2 ports in the router, I am using a WRT-54GL with DD-WRT installed.

I can access these from outside the LAN OK.

Here's the catch. I am trying to use Blue Iris as the camera controlling software. I can configure it to use any port. Default is 80.

I open port 80 on the router, and I run a NETSTAT -aon I see that 80 is listening, but when I go to

    http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

it always shows 80 as being closed, YET when I enter

http://my external IP:80, FROM WITHIN THE LAN, I get the Blue Iris application.

But if I go out to a WAN connection, and try that exact sam URL, it times out.

So then I try port 8080, all the same. No matter what port I try,

    http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

    shows it as closed.

Is there some magic to getting WB to let me view these? Are these ports blocked?

I'm not interested in 24x7 viewing, but if I get an alert from the system via email, I would like to turn them on for viewing.

Thanks for any thoughts on how to get these up and running.

    Rick

Just a guess here, so take it for what its worth.

You say you've tried ports 80 and 8080. These are typical ports for webservers and may be getting blocked on a residential account. Since you're able to directly access the cameras from outside your LAN, just not the Blue Iris software, try setting the port for the software to something not associated with web traffic.

    Try 9090
I am not on WB but could not use 80 or 8080 either with my camera

Let us know if that works for you, please

    Hello rparge,
No, ports 80 or 8080 are not blocked, I use 8080 all the time to access my cameras with Exede.

I don’t know anything about Blue Iris, but it sounds like it’s some sort of server software that resides on your pc and talks to your cameras on you LAN that you then connect to in order to access / control these cameras?

If so, it sounds like the problem is the firewall on your pc that’s running the Blue Iris software.

Try opening 8080 on your router to your PC IP and assigning 8080 to your Blue Iris software (I assume the software is port configurable).
Then open 8080 on your pc’s firewall.

As far as Exede is concerned, 8080 (or any other port that I happen to use) is not blocked... at least I haven’t run into a non-functional port and I use about a dozen of them.

Thanks, I am still unable to get to any of the cameras, with one exception. I changed the ports to 3000, 3001, and 3002, assigned the app to 3000, assigned the EXE in the firewall (Comodo) and opened the ports in the router, and nothing works. Interesting, though, I am able to get one Foscam start page if I log on with my Android tablet, but can get no image back, and still unable to get to the Blue Iris page on any port on any browser.

PlugNickel, what brand cameras are you using? (if you care to share that.) (:

I'll try 9090 next and keep you updated, I have not given up yet. Perhaps it's the camera brand? Any other possibilities out there worth looking at?

    TIA!

I have 4 surveillance cameras hooked up to a dvr. I use software provided by the manufacturer to log into the dvr and I am able to view the live feeds away from my home with Exede being used as my home internet connection.

I use Vivotek 4 channel video servers ( VS2403 ). They are older servers, but work well so I see no need to upgrade them to the new version VS8401.
They use standard analog cameras and allow you to view and control them via a PC's browser.
They also make IP cameras, but I'd rather use inexpensive analog cameras so that I can replace them as needed at little cost (hence the server).

Been running these servers for about six years without problem.

Have you tried just using your FOSCAM cameras connecting directly to your router as a starting point? No PC or extra software needed. I run my FOSCAM cameras that way with port forwarding at the router and using dyndns.org for handling the dynamic IP (although my IP hasn't changed in many months). Have accessed the cameras (including tilt/pan control) from all over the country with both PCs and android tablets.

First you need to get it working with a web browser once you get that working then you start working on the software.

Here is how I setup mine I use the last IP of the camera as the port # so I can remember them like this http://192.168.0.84:84/
You have to open those ports in the router and port forward them to the correct IP address or it will not work from the net.

Instead of doing all that testing your trying to do you only need to visit the cameras webpage using a browser to test it.

Thats all the monitoring software does it visits a wepbage in the camera
Example http://192.168.0.84:84/snapshot.cgi so if it works in your browser it will work with the software. If it does not then your setup is correct and something is wrong with your software setup perhaps the firewall is blocking it.

If it works in the browser stop messing with the router.
