I just used another IP Calculator, and using Exede's IP address and netmask, it spits out relevant data, which suggests Exede's numbers are valid.

Imho, users should be complaining to their router OEM. I've been around since IBM PC days, and am fully aware of this "blame someone" for this/that glitch.

Since out of the box routers can work just fine on Exede, it suggests a lack of programing on some routers, and/or glitches in electronics between SB2 and users' routers.

Hence, complain to your router vendor...cause it appears to me that Exede is in compliance with Request for Comments: 950; Internet Standard Subnetting Procedure, and that some router OEMs ain't (if their equipment does not have electronic glitch with SB2).

It would be nice if Exede listed problematic or good routers.

We try to keep all of that information up to date in our Knowledge Base. The latest article we have concerning certain routers not working correctly is here.

If you are going by your ip addresses, it may not be happening in your case. Most subscribers have a valid ip most of the time. I have had at least 3 subscribers as soon as they were installed, their router wouldn't work. Those routers were all working on their previous systems. One of those routers was fairly new. After a couple hours of troubleshooting, I did the calculation and it was invalid. The pc worked directly. On other occasions, I had two subs call me saying their router was working and stopped suddenly. Those were new routers. One of them went out and bought a brand new router and it still wouldn't work. He could plug his computer directly into the modem and it would work. He ended up putting a service call in for me to come out. The morning I was supposed to go out he called and said his routers are working again.. both of them. So this problem appears to come and go, when a new dynamic IP is issued. Its not happening with everyone and not all the time, but a good percent of subs are having router problems, and it may explain why this thread is so long. I work with other IPSs and have never seen such a high router incompatibility rate. It doesn't seem to matter how old the router is.

    PS
Maybe we could get folks with router issues to post their ips subnets, and gateways and we could check just to rule that out. There's no security risk because it will change in a few days.

Exede is over 100,000 plus users onboard...it don't look like that many issues.

If one examines Comcast's forum here, Home Networking / Router / & WiFi Gateway Help, one will find router issues.

For instance, New modem and old router problem:

After having some troubles lately I upgraded my old linksys modem to a new Motorola Xtreme. It is very fast and works fine connected to my PC.

However, I can't get it and my netgear wndr3300 wireless router to communicate

I did find this tidbit interesting, "Power cycling the modem is ALWAYS required when you switch the device connected to the modem. The modem remembers the MAc address of the first device and will not talk to another until you reset it to a clean state where it can learn the MAC address of the new device."
