Default Exede12 users.. State your data consumption thus far..

As the title reads.. I'd like to see other Exede12 users state their data consumption.. This is quite easy if you have a DD-WRT flashed router and can look at the stats for the WAN port..

Not even a full 2 weeks and I'm nearly at 23GB of data combined, downloading and uploading..

I wanna know how many actually are able to stay under their data allowance per month... I'm betting probably next to none..

My reset date (billing date) is the 24th...a full month of usage ending 23 April was 4.4gB's.

I reset the counter on the morning of April 24th and current count is 2.42 gB's...

I keep two computers updated, about 6 hours/day browsing and forum participation, no video streaming, other than occasional <3 minute youtube, no VOIP...no VPN...just "Normal" activity for me...I run two daily speed tests at testmy.net, one in the morning and one in the evening.

I have the 7.5gB plan and my usage is very near the same monthly amount I used under the old Value Pak plan..very happy, speeds average 17mbs...

Looks good...let me add to the post I made above...

I do all my online banking with this service, and email with large attachments..as I stated, I'm online a minimum of 6 hours/day..

The things I don't do is play games...I use Facebook, but play no games, so I don't download game updates...I don't do movies..that's what my Dish Network is for, I don't do any peer-peer, and I don't use this service to run a business, or to take on-line classes...

I'm retired, so am online during the day...almost always off the internet after 6pm..

All those add up to less than 5gB's/month usage...the only time I ever used 6gB's in a month was when I downloaded a full map update for my GPS..it was a little over 1gB...

Don't know how many other customers are like me...but using the system for everything but entertainment or business works fine for me with the lowest DAP plan...

obviously not one of the targeted customers that Exede is marketing towards.. According to your own words, I don't see why you're even on Exede12. Everything you stated could be done with the Exede5 plan..

Exede 5 plans are not available on the new bird. Exede 5 plans are for the augmented beams of Anik F2 and WildBlue 1.

Actually, everything WM4BAMA's doing could be done on the legacy system or dial-up.
I guess it helps if you don't have any teenagers at home.

A customer has no choice to choose an augmented beam or not..it all depends on your geographic location...if you are covered by a ViaSat-1 spotbeam you can't get an Exede5 plan...

Also, what I did when I was on the Legacy Value Pak took me closer to 10 hours a day to do the exact same thing now with Exede12 in 6 hours...that's why I upgraded, for the increase in speeds, which in turn saves me time..I did not upgrade to demand more usage allotment..although I agree that they should be increased for the folks that use their system differently than I do.

One good suggestion that I saw in an outdated Viasat publication suggested that their usage counters would only be turned on from 5pm-midnight...that's the best suggestion I've seen..

    Hi wm4bama
Remarkable how we think a like and use the magic of the internet in the same way, I've asked on other forums "what are your needs and usage" haha got little feedback for a response, not worth further effort.
Sure hope your thread gives me a better understanding of usage.

Dish Network is what heavy downloads are for entertainment only.
Leave my bandwidth alone to share, thankfully FAP/DAP will keep them away from ruining a good thing ?
Hmm I'm not in that 1% (political thing) that does much and proud

Ouch a Tom Tom new map download besides paying $40 and was close to 1GB, don't need to do that again haha

Well, as of this am, my usage meter is working.

    Usage Meter
Your monthly data allowance 7.5 GB
    Your usage
    (current period) Downloaded: 0.6 GB
    Uploaded: 0.1 GB
    Total usage: 0.7 GB
    Amount remaining
    in current period 6.8 GB

Your usage will be reset to zero on 06/07/2012.
    Your measurement period: 05/07/2012 - 06/06/2012

    Current Service: exede12 - 7.5 GB

I do not play games, watch video, or other high usage activity. At least my speeds are usable where speeds on the old system were not many times.
