So, that's what's meant by allowing the customer to get used to their new speeds...it means that while adjusting their habits to the faster speeds they also must watch their usage closely to determine what they can, or can't do to avoid exceeding their DAP cap..this grace period allows them to do this..

Hopefully, when WB gets their online usage monitor working they will also have the option in place to buy extra gigabytes for the customers to use until they decide what internet habits/functions they want to use..

You just proved my point! They entice people to sign-up because with the increased speed, etc. they can do all of these things and more. But guess what? They cut your bandwidth allowance so that if we do more than what was previously allowed they will either slow your speed, shut you down or charge you more!! As I said: Great deal!! Why would any current WB customer want to sign up? New customers? Of course, at this point the only thing they have to compare it with is probably dial-up. I have few complaints regarding my old WB account. I was anxious to sign-up for this when I first heard about it. But once I called and was treated shabbily and saw the details of this new program I have little to no incentive to jump on board. Think of it: For more money I can get more speed but go from an allowance of 22GB of bandwidth to 15GB! Only shear ignorance or foolishness on my part would do that. And what really galls me is that the reps talk to you like you should think that this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I guess they hope that they are talking to a fool who hasn't done his homework.

A couple of comments...I've been an Exede12 customer since Feb 2.

One day prior to my usage reset date this month, I got an email from WB saying I had exceeded my usage allotment. I had been tracking my usage and figured I was about twice my 7.5GB limit - I plan on upgrading. I called customer "service" and she told me I was about 2000% (yes, THOUSAND) over my limit. I tried to remain calm and explained I had this problem when I first became a customer...their usage meter reported I had used over 60GB in my first 2 days...and 2 days later the usage meter for Exede was taken offline. I had not done anything I had done before with a 3G wireless broadband connection - with which I had never exceeded 12GB in a month. She put me on hold and when she came back simply said...not to worry your usage had been reset to 0. So I am VERY anxious to see this usage meter back online.

About 3 weeks ago I got a WB customer survey asking how I liked the new Exede service. A lot of questions asked things like "have you used it to download/view movies", "have you used it for Skype", etc. Almost every question was focused on using Exede as a true high speed broadband service - with little regard for the USAGE CAPS! My answer to every one of those was "I've tried it to see how it works but will use it very little because of the usage limits".

I understand the need for the usage caps - but don't pretend that this is can or should complete with cable or FIOS. And believe me, it will be VERY easy to take advantage of these higher speeds and go way beyond your usage limit.

So much speculation or merely guess what the future is.
Did somebody miss my link to Networx ?
Then we can talk facts, March 10.3GB, April usage is 2.54GB.

    Hi wm4bama
Yes hopefully their meter will "auto apply option in place to buy extra gigabytes" Quoted you

I also have HN that will auto apply the free monthly token before breaking the connection, btw HN now has a rollover of the monthly token to save up to 3 allows a heavy download to be made.
    I love competition.

Hmm do you see that competition when HN Jupiter Gen4 becomes available ?
My speculation Excede is testing how much the system can handle ?
Congestion is in the distant future.
I certainly don't want those heavy down loaders to share my bandwidth.
That's what Dish Network & DirecTv is for or rent a movie

Not sure if that was directed at me. I've tracked my usage both through the modem and my router...noting usage each day. Both track very closely. I've had to handle rollover/reset only once - power went out while we were away so there was no usage from that point anyway.

I've installed Networx but using a router and having several wireless devices makes that a little more difficult...I've set it to measure the usage on the router but have found I can't even log out of my Windows XP account - need to stay logged in for it to keep running. Not sure if there's a way to run it as a service.

But here's the rub...what if all my tracking and measuring of usage results in a wide difference between what WB reports? It shouldn't but after my initial experience when the usage meter WAS up....I am very paranoid. Heck, their tech support doesn't even believe us when we report speeds are down.

If, as we suspect, when the WB usage meter goes online for Exede customers what you measure locally should be much higher than the Exede usage counter...

This assumes that the Exede usage counter counts bytes transmitted through the satellite, which are compressed by AcceleNet...and what you monitor at your end is the decompressed bytes coming from the modem to your router/computer..

We'll be able to tell for sure when the Exede usage meter is operational.

    Default Usage numbers "askew"

This is why I am paranoid about the usage numbers from ViaSat...

I received a customer satisfaction survey call from ViaSat this morning (that's a dangerous thing to do!). While on the call, she said, "there looks like there may be a problem with your account, are you having system issues?". I am not - connection and speeds have been great for the last 4 weeks. So she transferred me to "technical" support. He said there appeared to be nothing wrong. Hmmm. So I asked him to check my usage. Since April 4 (my reset date) ViaSat is showing me as having used 178.8GB!! My modem AND router are showing about 6.5GB for the same period. All traffic goes through my router. Something is definitely wrong here. The usage they are showing is absurd. As I've said numerous times, I have the same network setup with Exede as I did with my wireless broadband (where I never exceeded 11GB in a month). I've done a little more with Exede than I was with the wireless broadband (which shows in the numbers I have measured) but 179GB??? That is nuts. He created a ticket so we'll see where this goes.

I don't understand why people are surprised by the absurd usages that WB is claiming they use. Isn't the reason WB took the meter offline because it was in error?

I hope you are correct. But when I first had the issue in Feb not everyone seemed to have the problem. And every time I have talked to tech support about it, they immediately begin to claim I must have something running on my system. They don't seem to understand the volumes we're talking about. I had the modem disconnected from all devices while I was at work and, while I was on the phone with viasat, they were seeing over 2GB of usage per hour.

They have never told me the problem is THEIR usage meter. But that doesn't surprise me because nothing is ever wrong on their end.

Anyway....well see what happens when the meter comes back online.

Unfortunately, you guys are the ViaSat guinea pigs. I almost became one, but in spite of trying twice over a two week period they couldn't even schedule an install even though my local dealer was chomping at the bit to do it. In the meantime, I started to do a search on line and joined this forum and I'm now glad that they didn't get me! I'm taking a "look and see attitude" towards "upgrading." So far nothing I've experienced or heard about Exede is making me want to take the leap. In fact, it is doing the exact opposite.

Hi all, I am new here. I just have to say that I look forward to being a guinea pig. So far my experience has been pleasant. Talked to the Exede12 sales people yesterday and have an install date of Friday. I can't wait to give it a test drive. My current satellite provider SUCKS, I have been with them for 12 years. Speeds are dial up comparable and my bandwidth limit is a rolling 750 MB.
