Default Regarding Rolling 30 day plan

Hello, this is my first time posting here as I am quite new. I'm a bit confused about the original rolling 30 day plan.

I have been a wildblue user for approximately 2-3 months and have only recently started monitoring my data usage.

There are 6 in my family and in December we went over our plan and got slowed down. We then used our one time reset which put us back to 40%. That was back in the first week of January. It has now been over 30 days and our data has not gone back to 0%. The information about this plan on wildblue's website was not very clear to me, so can anyone help me understand this?

    Thank you

Your usage is the sum of the last thirty day's usage. On day thirty-one, day one's usage drops off and day thirty-one's usage is added.

Mathemagically, it is the "summation" from day=1 to day=31. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summation

It is also obsolescent and is being replaced by the Data Access Plan DAP that is a traditional 'reset on billing date.' When that happens to each of us is in our contract changes over time.

Okay that is a much better explanation. Thanks for the response. I guess we will get that upgrade in the future.

Will the DAP replace the FAP for those of us that do not plan to upgrade?

I am a new customer & this is my first post. I am also a computer tech with 20 years experience & 10 in networking. After talking to several people at WB both over the phone & on their customer service chat, it is my understanding they will NOT be giving current customers who are under the FAP policy & rolling 30 days to the new DAP policy with 30 day monthly reset EVER. No, they want current customers to sign up for a new plan. As far as I understand from what they have said, the DAP applies only to the new plans. Old service plans will not be getting an updated service.

What bites about this is with a rolling 30 day FAP, you NEVER get reset to 0, unless you don't use the internet for a month. The best you can hope for is averaging out to a certain percentage of usage. This is VERY limiting to most average users, even if they are just using the internet to browse social websites & watch a few youtube videos.

Considering that most web browsers have built-in prefetch settings & the fact that WB seems to measure usage at their gateway & not the modem, usage stats will always read higher than actual download & upload on your router or computer.

With the new DAP reset on billing date plan, you get to start at 0 at the beginning of every billing cycle, giving you the chance to use all the data your allowed each month, rather than only a percentage of the full amount that the rolling month gives you.

Of course, every customer will want the new DAP to apply to their account but from what I've been told by several WB employees is the new policy only applies to the new plans rather than the old ones current customers are on. So, basically, whatever package you have, you are stuck with unless you upgrade to the new plan, pay all their huge fees & get the black modem.

I know, I would prefer 25gb usage a month that reset each month than 17gb down & 5gb up that never resets & that I never get to fully take advantage of...

Sorry about the double post. Reloading the page seemed to have caused this. Odd...

Careful ronniemg. If you are hitting the data cap in your current plan, chances are the same thing will happen when you upgrade to the new plan. While the new plan will reset data usage on your billing date, the way data is monitored along with new caps that are in place could give you the same or more problems. I would research the issues very carefully before upgrading.

No, the new DAP applies to the new Exede packages. We are keeping the FAP on the WildBlue packages unchanged. The main reason is, the two services operate on two completely different platforms, and are measured separately.

    Thanks for clarifying WB Steve.
