    Default Typical Installation

I am considering ordering WildBlue in the next few days. I have question on the dish location (Typically). I read some place on the forum about an installer wanting to do a roof mount and wanted to drill holes in the roof for the cables. I don't really care for that idea. If it is a roof mount couldn't the cables go under the soffit into the house? Also, if you do a wall mount is it an additional expense?

The Installation and Service Standards document with which I am familiar limits the number of holes that can be made and requires extra charges for extra holes for a non-standard installation.

Cable routing is also an issue of length minimums and maximums.

If you agree to a plan that says "Free standard installation", this refers to the installer being able to install a roof-mount or side mount...how the cables are run can be negotiated between you and the installer.

Metal roofs can't be used for roof mounts, and sometimes the installer can't get line-of-sight to the satellite with a side-mount.

That leaves a pole mount as an option but is not part of the "Free standard installation"...if a pole mount is needed expect the installer to charge you and extra $150.00, or more.

Your best bet is to request a site survey before you sign any contract, order or agreement. When you get a site survey you can ask all the necessary questions and then decide what you want to do..

There are good and bad in every profession. Whether I'm looking for a plumber or a mechanic I do my homework and get somebody local and good. People should do the same with their internet service.

Not always possible for those of us in the original market, isolated and rural.

my company does not charge extra for pole mount . if a installer tries to charge extra for anything call WB to make sure the charge is right . it does differ from one
    area to another

Yes you are correct. I wouldn't want holes in my roof either. If you live in the north where there is snow fall, a roof mount is not a good idea anyway. If your shingles are going to need replacing in the next few years...not a good place.

Pole mounts IMO are best, but there is most often an extra charge.
I live in SW MO & am an independent installer. If I have to dig a hole 3' deep & buy a pole & 3 bags of cement I will charge, but your mount will be done right & you will be happy. If snow gets on the dish & you loose internet you can take a broom & gently clean it off.

when I had mine installed I was told it was free install and the guy got their and set up a pole and put it in concrete drilled all the screws for the wire and a hole in the wall. And then I was told it would be $150 for the install since he installed it on a pole. I told him I was told it was free and he said that was only on the roof or side of the house. I told him why didnt he say something or put it on the side or roof of the house. He said If I wasnt going to pay for the install he was going to have to pull the wire off the house and pull the pole and concrete out with his pickup and there would be a hole where the cable came in left. I was ****** and he knew most people will pay before they let him tear up their homes.

he would not have taken it down that would have been a lot more work
the pole is 3ft deep with 120lbs of concrete, if done right
if there was really a charge it would have been told upfront
