I got a new laptop about a month ago,,,, Then I bought my fiance' a Kindle Fire with a month of free stuff from Amazon. When she visits on weekends she streams a few TV shows on it and downloads games.

Then I got FAPed on Christmas day with a house full of internet using guests! How embarrassing! Oh, and after reading some on this board, I suggest some of the moderators develop their people skills a bit. You folks are expected to be the adult supervision around here

They should reread some FAQ's again.

I'm posting this in a spirit of being helpful to the marketing department of Wildblue.

WB has stated that the capacity of the new satellite is more than ten times as much as all previous Internet satellites combined. They have stated that the cost of delivering a byte of data has come down significantly. I don't remember the figures but I remember that WB has stated that the cost is a fraction of the previous cost.

Now then, where will the customers come from to fill this new capacity? Seems to me, most will fit into these categories:

    1. People currently on dial-up who may FINALLY get some kind of satellite service. I doubt that there are many such prospects left but to get even that small number, WB will be competing with Hughes Net which seems to have a bottomless budget for advertising. Hughes Net is going to send up its own satellite next year and you can count on them offering a competitive package to WB's.

    2. Current Hughes Net customers who may switch to WB. Again, Hughes Net isn't going to stand by and let you take customers away from them without a fight.

    3. People who live in what you have called "underserved areas". I assume you mean people who can now get relatively high speed Internet service in the 3-5ish megs download speed range. Many of these people have no cap on bytes downloaded. If WB thinks the new plans that seem to have been set will compete with these peoples' current plans, it is sadly mistaken...especially after word gets around...and it will...that WB imposes severe caps on bytes downloaded. I've gotten the impression that WB is counting on tapping into this market to make their new business plan viable. I think WB is going to get a big surprise about this market. I know if *I* had a choice between a plan that offers 3-5 megs download speed and no FAP cap and a low ping versus a 12 megs down with a 15 gig monthly DAP and a much higher ping at the same or higher cost, I'd have to think about 500 milliseconds before I chose the 3-5 megs down with no FAP cap and low ping. Don't count on these people being too stupid to ask these questions.

And my comments above don't even consider that new technology is arriving all the time which may make your service even less desirable, relatively speaking.

Wildblue marketing? PLEASE reconsider these new DAPs for your own good as well as your current mostly loyal customers' good.

Actually that quote is from Viasat.

WB is owned by Viasat. But WB thinks it was thier satellite, but it now seems that they are only getting a small percentage of use, of what they were saying months earlier.

Also in the statement from Viasat, they stated that the ViaSat-1 was to augument the other 3 existing WB satellites.

Hello everyone I am new to the forums but have been a WildBlue customer since 2008.
I registered a few days ago but have been reading all the posts for quite some time. If we are not allowed to experience all the web has to offer due to FAP, viasat needs to take that line from the promo, and remove all suggestions that we will be able to stream media,VOIP etc.

The QMT policy pdf file is too big to load over my FAPed connection. The browser times out.

I'm only at 93% after 5 days of super low usage... Where is my daily usage history data which I need to predict how long it will take to get back down to 80%? I need to make a management decision

You actually have to get below 70% for your Fap to be removed.

I definitely hit the FAP limit and not the QMT. I am still throttled after over a week and still at 88%.

But now that you mention it, if the QMT handles fair access during congestion, why is an additional FAP or DAP needed?

QMT is a short term "fix". FAP is long term.

    uh.. right!

so if QMT resolves congestion problems in the short term, why is a long term "solution" needed?
