Default Please help me with getting on the internet!

    Hi!

We've had Wildblue in our home for a year almost, and it's working fine on my pc. My daughters had a couple of laptops given to them (Dells with Windows XP installed). They can't figure out how to get on the internet. My son (at college) can get on with his laptop when he's home, but I don't know if he had to do something to get on to the internet. We're fairly computer illiterate, so I need help and easy-to-understand instructions please!!!

    Thanks!

    Laurie

I'm sure a more detailed explanation will help you as you get further along in your configuration, but for a basic starting point you need a wireless router that connects to the WB modem, your existing desktop computer wired to the router and the laptops configured to work with your wireless router.

Perhaps, if you don't have a wireless router, you can get more basic instructions from a computer geek where you buy your router, like a Radio Shack or from a local computer repair store.

It does not sound like you have a router. It would be easier if you did.

If you are hooking the computers to the modem one at a time and trying to connect you need to go to the CONTROL PANEL and click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS and then run the NETWORK SETUP WIZARD.

Are you using a wireless router, or are you plugging your computer directly into the WildBlue modem?

If you're using a wireless router, then your daughters' computers need to be configured to recognize that router and connect through it. If you're plugging into the WildBlue modem directly, then only one computer can connect to the Internet at a time, and they need to be plugged in using the cable.
