It looks like the Select plan may be in your foreseeable future.

LB, what browser are you using to conduct your speed tests? And did you install the WB Optimizer/Companion?

Many of us have demonstrated that using the WB proxy server (which is installed by the Optimizer/Companion) will slow your file downloads by 25-30% or more. The WB proxy server works best with Firefox for web browsing, but for best file download speeds IE8 (without the proxy) will increase your file download speeds quite a bit...

micwa , yes that is the whole thing in a nut shell. the sluggishness of pages loading, and I am still getting connection time outs. Ugradraded to the select pack last night and am hoping that cures this but I believe there still is a problem in my install/ modem.

Hey DOUG, yeah I did the upgrade , did not have much choice. I mean even with the value pack
tuned in and with the available bandwith it is not enough to do anything other than your base /although above dial-up web surfing.

    got it

Do not know much about proxy servers or how to set or unset them. As far as browsers I run firefox 3.5 and the ie 7 I believe. But I sure will DL the ie8 for an 30% advantage. How do I go about setting the proxy or unsetting in this case? Thanks

And for to answer your Q, I used both the IE and the Fox for the test at various times of day and yes I did the WB Optimizer/Companion.. ?does the companion come with the wbo or is it a separate download?

The WB Optimizer and WB Companion are one and the same now..

Ok, leave Firefox with the WB proxy installed..to verify it's installed in Firefox click Tools/Options/Advanced/Network and click "Settings". At the bottom you should see the Automatic proxy selected with the "wpad"......address, which is the WB proxy server.

Now, if you haven't already, install the AddBlock-Plus add-on to Firefox and subscribe it to the EasyList-USA filters, and enable them. Now you are setup with Firefox for the fastest web browsing options on WB.

Now, for file downloads, like Windows Updates, download.com, filehippo.com or any streaming audio/video you need to run IE8 without the WB proxy server.

After installing IE8, click on Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings, and uncheck any box that's checked...you don't want any option selected in LAN settings. If you run the WB Optimizer/Companion again you will have to redo IE8 settings...

Now that will give you the fastest download options with IE8 on WB..

Let me know how that works out..

Well I checked the proxy in Firefox and it showed the wild blue settings so we are good there and I also did the add-on add bloclk plus, but have yet to trie it out but will later.
On IE8 I went to the lan settings and could not change or untick due to them being transparent for some reason. Can you go into the admin account to change the setting from there or what? Thanks Will try this fire fox out in the mean time.

When you look at IE8's LAN settings what (if any) boxes are checked? If none, you're OK...

Yes, you should be able to make changes to these settings if you're logged in with admin privileges..

Can you use IE8 to connect to the internet?
